This Shirvan rug was handwoven in the eastern Caucasus at the turn of the 20th century.
It is in a hard to come by large size and woven in a wide runner format often referred to as “kelleghi”. It features an all-over pattern of boteh encapsulated within ram’s horns in yellow, peach, ivory, and red on a vibrant blue field. It appears the weaver initially considered a memling gul field before shifting to the rams horn motif as evidenced by the partial pattern near the bottom edge.
In excellent condition, signs of wear consistent with significant age. Densely woven, with a floppy handle.
