This vintage ikat was handmade on the island of Sumba in Indonesia during the third quarter of the 20th century.
Ikat is a warp resist dyeing technique similar to "tie dyeing". It is crafted in two strips and features a warm color palette of brown, gold, and terra-cotta, with indigo blue details. A variety of symbols are found on the cloth including men, lobsters, horses and serpents.
In excellent condition, signs of wear consistent with age.
