This Agra rug was woven in Northern India during the late 19th century.
It features an elegant all-over herati design in crimson and icy blue on an oxidized brown ground. The crimson tone utilizes lac which is a dye derived from insects and characteristic of Northern India weaving from both Amritsar and Agra. The whole is framed by a reconciled palmette border. A portion of the foundation is visible revealing that the underlying cotton has been dyed with indigo.
In good condition with most of the wear due to oxidization of the brown tones. Low pile with a floppy handle.
