Vintage Mola cloth handmade by the Guna (previously spelled Kuna) people of Panama.
Mola is a reverse appliqué technique, similar to the technique used in quilting but using multiple layers of different-colored cloth that are first sewn together before a design is creating by cutting away different layers. This Mola features two sets of confronting birds amongst a scrolling maze-like backdrop. Maroon and ivory are the primary colors utitlized but the feathers are rendered in wonderful pops of green, yellow, orange, purple and turquoise. The polychrome feathers and mazelike backdrop really add visual interest and excitement to the piece.
The fabric is in very good condition.
