This Gabbeh rug was handwoven during the 20th century.
It features the ancient symbol of a lion holding a saber in front of the sun. Here the lion is rendered in orange with a full mane against a red background which has faded through 2/3 of the rug leaving the remaining third more saturated. A mohawk top white sun peeks over its back. The whole composition is framed by a border of chain-linked rosettes.
The condition is excellent. In unused condition, with no signs of wear. Plush and densely woven.
