Antique NW Persian Kurdish Area Rug with colorful repeating boteh motif and 4 borders

Antique Kurdish Rug - 4'6 x 7'2

Regular price $850.00 Sale

This Kurdish rug was handwoven during the second quarter of the 20th century.

It features an all-over design of penguin-like botehs waddling row by row in alternating directions. The pattern is on a soft red ground with small moments of abrash with most botehs in navy. Near the bottom edge, a shift occurs with one row of big yellow botehs followed by two rows of French blue botehs. In a few places near the edges, abstracted human forms have been added.

The whole is encapsulated by four borders. The scrolling vine work of the ivory and gold borders provide a nice frame of contrasting colors while the two blue borders add a playful element with their gumdrop-like circles in a red which has faded to pink in many areas.

In very good condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Pile is chunky, with a soft handle. Edges have been reinforced for longevity.
