This Kurdish rug was woven during the second quarter of the 20th century.
It is composed of a variation of the Herati design in tones of green, khaki, and copper on an indigo blue ground. Upon closer inspection, a variety of animals and human figures can be found. Most prominently the two faces inside cameos in the center of the rug but there are at least eight more full human figures as well. The whole is framed by a very wide main border of scrolling palmettes in the same tones but on softer blue ground.
In good condition with various folk repairs (as pictured).
