"This piece was inspired after reading Heart of Aztlan, by Rudolfo Anaya. This piece explores themes of migration, home, and the diaspora- specifically my family’s and that of the legend of the Mexicas. Legend says, the Mexica were ordered to leave their homeland Aztlan, by the god Huitzilopotchli (represented by the hummingbird). Aztlan was a paradise, but when the Mexica left everything turned against them. Aztlan is more than a representation of home and migration, but of displacement."
