This Tabriz rug was likely handwoven in the workshop of master weaver Haji Jalili during the early 20th century. It features a tree of life design surrounded by a variety of animals in the main field including deer, peacocks and what appear to monkeys or demons. The main border features prominently features a repeating pairing of Lions and the two minor borders have a similar vibe with peacocks in place of the lions. The whole is finely woven in the soft color palette characteristic of the workshop with browns, oranges, blues and creams. The pile is low and densely woven, with a strong handle. In excellent condition, with no signs of wear. A real collector's piece.
