This Shirvan rug was woven in the Caucasus during the turn of the 20th century.
It features a large central polygon flanked on the top and bottom by pairs of smaller polygons. Each is filled with their own medallion while the largest also features a perimeter of alternating rosettes. The field is filled with protection symbols including botehs, combs, small swastikas and various types of birds. The whole is rendered is a soft palette of yellow, ivory, brown and navy. There is moment near the edge were a bright red tone makes a brief appearance.
In good condition, all four sides have been reinforced for longevity.
