This Nakshi Kantha was crafted in Bengal during the late 19th century.
Kantha is a Bengali folk tradition of embroidering textiles using recycled cloth. This Kantha is a narrative Kantha that tells a story over multiple scenes. It may display a classic folk story or something relevant to the maker. A variety of scenes of village life are showcased including collecting wood, making of chapathi, and a conflict where the participants are holding sticks or other weapons. A very intriguing piece that incorporates many varied scenes into a visually balanced whole.
In very good condition with some areas of light discoloration and small holes.
