This Bidjar rug was handwoven during the second quarter of the 20th century.
It features a central geometric rosette medallion in blues, coral, chocolate, and canary yellow with a scalloped white perimeter flanked by two teardrop medallions. The central medallion sits on a well executed allover herati design on a rich red ground with four cornices of flowering vases. Framed by three equally sized borders that include a central navy palmette border sandwiched between whimsical matching borders which each feature a parade of peacocks on coral grounds. Well balanced design, masterful craftmanship, and expert execution provide subtle splendor. Could be at home anywhere from a medieval castle to a Manhattan penthouse. A hard wearing and durable rug ready to stick around for another century with the right steward.
In very good condition for its age with a full pile. With a low, dense pile and a heavy handle.
