This rug was hand-hooked in the Northeastern United States during the second quarter of the 20th century. 

It features a variety of Native American symbols against a cream ground and a framed border of interlocking red and blue triangles that have been perfectly reconciled around the corners. The most prominent motif is a thunderbird, a symbol of protection, power, and strength. To the left are what appear to be bear paw prints (protection, power, and strength), and to the right a Teepee (connection to nature and the ancestors) and a deer hoof (strength, agility, and grace). Below the thunderbird are two crossed arrows representing friendship or connection and the initials "JCM". Rugs like this may have been crafted to commemorate a birth.

In very good condition for its age. The binding has been replaced and the rug has been backed for extra structure and to prolong its longevity for the next generation. Flat pile, with a soft handle.
