It is backed in silk that is embellished with silk embroidered flowers. A very unique and interesting piece.

This quilt was handmade and of recycled materials in North America at the end of the 19th century.

It features a grid of colorful squares stuffed with padding and scrunched together creating a very fluffy appearance.  The squares are made of a variety of fabrics, some plain and others with simple patterns. It is backed in silk that is embellished with silk embroidered flowers. A very unique and interesting piece.

In very good condition, some of the square fabric have rips. Backed with embroidered silk. Has a little heft due to the padding but still quite an airy handle.

Special Provenance: Nelson Family, Portland, Oregon

Part of a collection of four quilts made by one person and passed down as family heirlooms. A portrait of the maker was saved by the family and can be seen in the last image. According to an oral history, the pieces were all made by the great-aunt of Mr. Nelson's mother.
