This needlepoint rug was handcrafted in Europe during the middle of the 20th century.
It features a nighttime scene of foliage, moths, and stars that wrap both above and behind a blue rectilinear form. It is simple and straightforward yet still striking in its warmth and beauty. The forms are impeccably executed and stand out against the backdrop that shifts from olive green to indigo and back to olive green. Look closely to see the rendering of shadows behind the leaves and stars. Wonderful use of shading and dimensionality.
In very good condition with some light staining on the back, and areas of loose stitching to the backing.
