Mid Century Diamond Bagh - 4’8 x 8'10

Regular price $650.00 Sale

This Bagh Phulkari was embroidered in East Punjab (Pakistan) during the Mid-20th century.

Phulkari is a tradition of folk embroidery from the Punjab region that encompasses both India and Pakistan. It is composed of colorful silken thread atop rough cotton cloth. Bagh is a particular type of Phulkari where the silk embroidery thread completely covers the cotton making the base barely visible. Baghs were often intended to be worn for special events like weddings.

This bagh was crafted in three strips and features a large wonky central diamond full of personality and charm. Framed by a top and bottom skirt which showcases the earthy red cotton cloth the piece is embroidered on as well. Highly contrasting tones of orange, pink, green and white really pop and make this an exciting piece.

In Good condition with wear to the silk threads in some areas down to the cotton foundation. The worn areas give an intimate look at how the piece was contructed.
