This vintage quilt was crafted in the Southern United States during the middle of the 20th century.
This striking mid-20th century quilt embodies the resourcefulness and artistry of traditional quilt-making. Hand-stitched from an array of deep-toned fabrics, its patchwork design features a rich interplay of stripes, plaids, and solid colors, giving the piece an understated yet complex visual depth. It is further distinguished by its vibrant yarn ties—knotted in red and blue—adding texture, warmth, and a tactile element that enhances its handmade charm. These ties, a signature of Southern quilting traditions, secure the layers of the quilt together while serving as a decorative feature that breathes life into the dark, moody palette of the textile. Bound with a soft, reddish border that frames the composition and accentuates red yarn. We have replaced the old worn backing with of indigo-dyed mud cloth from Burkino Faso.
