This Farahan rug was woven during the second quarter of the 20th century.
It features patterning that would usually be associated with Khamseh tribes further south but constructed in with all the hallmarks of Farahan weaving. The hide shaped navy field and rosy outer cornices are full of dozens of birds and multiple vase motifs. Framed by a main border meandering rosettes and botehs on a magenta ground and finished with skirt borders commonly associated Khamseh and Qashqa'i nomads. There are multiple instances of the ancient symbol of the lion holding a sword in front the sun (as pictured)
