Antique Nakshi Kantha - 1'5 x 1'6

Regular price $575.00 Sale

This Nakshi Kantha was crafted in Bengal during the early 20th century.

Kantha is a Bengali folk tradition of embroidering textiles using recycled cloth. This Kantha features a polychrome abstracted floral design. It is embroidered using a relatively wide palette of yellow, red, blue, pink and orange. Beautiful use of black and red running stitches provide a lovely backdrop. It appears to have been cut down from a larger cloth at some point and reassembled.

In good condition for it's age. Appears to have been cut down and reassembled during it's life. The backing has been added.

This Kantha was featured on page 190 of the book Mendings by Megan Sweeney
