A superb example of the famed Fachralo Kazak tradition, this nearly square tribal rug showcases the bold geometry and saturated natural dyes that define the best of 19th-century Caucasian weaving. It features an all-over design of penguin-like botehs waddling row by row in alternating directions. The botehs shift slightly in proportion and placement giving the composition a wavy feel. Adding to the funky feel and nature of the rug the weaving style begins to change near the top from a crisper weave to a looser one while the colors used slowly begin to shift as the new weaver presumably began to run out of the original yarn.
