This "confetti" rug was crafted by Shakers in the early 20th century in the Northeast United States.
The Shakers were an innovative and forward-thinking religious community popular in the United States, most notably during the mid to late 1800s. Their ethos of reduce/reuse/recycle is apparent in this "confetti" rug, which uses recycled materials for its pile. The base of the rug is knit and this gives it a lot of flexibility.
