This coverlet was overshot woven during the 19th Century in the United States. It is woven in two strips that have been sewn together in the center.
It features a grid of squares that utilize red and green wefts over an exposed white warp to create various patterns including stripes, diamonds and snowflakes. The grid is surrounded by a border of thin patterning on three sides. The top unbordered section is seamed with cloth indicating the original coverlet was likely longer.The addition of borders showcase the weaver's proficiency and skill. Fine weaving and wonderful contrast give this a crisp feel and eye dazzling visual effect.
In very good condition. Missing top border but otherwise very w ell preserved for its considerable age.
