Antique Turkish prayer rug featuring the classic long and narrow latch-hooked Mihrab associated with the town of Nigde between Yahyali and Konya in central Anatolia. The main field is composed of the rich orangey-red mihrab on a silvery ground of faded fuchsine dyes and flanked by two cartouches each with rows of three stylized blossoms. With a main border featuring a soft zigzag meandering around olive-like cintamani symbols on a caramel ground.

Antique Chodor Turkmen Prayer Rug - 3'7 x 4'10

19th century Timuri Baluch rug composed of a wide prayer format often seen in early Timuri rugs. The blue ground mihrab contains a tree of life motif. Some of the serrated leaves on the tree are woven with apricot and aubergine silk. The main border is composed of hexagons with hooked geometric shapes. Outside of the small touches of colorful silk the color palette is subdued and limited to reds, blues, and oxidized browns.

Antique Anatolian prayer rug featuring a red ground mihrab with six flowering trees or shrub-like motifs. The mihrab is surrounded by a navy ground showcasing a variety of vegetation and protection symbols including two more shrub-like motifs found in the mihrab. Atop the contrasting red and navy grounds accents have been added in pleasing tones of green pink, yellow, chocolate, and ivory. The whole is framed by flowering vine main border and two swirling ribbon minor borders.

Turkish Karaman prayer rug composed of a bright red field with purple abrash and three columns containing floral motifs climbing towards the top of the rug. The floral motif of the central column could be interpreted as a hyacinth, which was a motif favored by Ottoman courts and later adopted in village rugs. This is chiefly a Turkish motif, and signifies regeneration and fertility. The other two columns contain carnation blossoms, another motif commonly found in Turkish rugs.
