This Serapi rug was handwoven during the late 19th century.
It features the classic Heriz layout with a graphic geometric central medallion. Great quality 19th-century Heriz rugs are often referred to as Serapi. Serapi patterning like what is exhibited here is often looser and freer than most later Heriz rugs. Serapis also have a softer palette and can include some unexpected tones. A soft and balanced palette of soft brick, coral, powder blue, wheat, and coral contrasts well against ivory and deep navy.
In good condition, rewoven in some areas, and professionally repaired. End borders have been rewoven. Low pile with a sturdy handle.
