This rug was woven in the South Caucasus in or around the Karabagh region and is dated as 1281 Hijri or 1864 in the Gregorian calendar.
It features a rare and poetic allover design of stylized floral shrubs growing from pots and evoking themes of paradise gardens. The uncommon and desirable rich green ground shifts in tone from hunter green to forest green and finally to a sublime sapphire blue. The overall rhythm is visually arresting—layered yet orderly, with fine asymmetrical details that animate the field. Framed by a main border of star-like rosettes that is sandwiched between chunky laleh abbassi minor borders. This piece maintains both village spontaneity and architectural cohesion.
In very good condition for it's considerable age, some unraveling near one end but overcast stitched. The pile is meaty, with a soft handle.
