This antique Amritsar rug was woven in Northern India during the late 19th century.
It features an elegant all-over design of palmettes, detailed blossoming vines, and groupings of curled leaves on a rich crimson ground. The crimson tone utilizes lac which is a dye derived from insects and characteristic of Northern India weaving from both Amritsar and Agra. With accents of gold, wheat, ivory, and pink. The whole is framed by a spectacular turquoise with a wonderful, undulating abrash that even has some moments of soft purple.
In very good condition with minimal wear considering its age. Some small areas of previous conservation have been professionally done and are invisible to the naked eye.
