This Afshar rug was woven during the second quarter of the 20th century.
It features classic patterning associated with the Afshar people of Sirjan. In the center are two latch-hooked medallions on deep navy surrounded by a lacquer-red ground surrounded by a final field of cobalt. Various greens, turquoise, apricot, and aubergine contrast wonderfully and accentuate the various small symbols and figures that fill the negative space. Nicely framed by an ivory main border, which brightens the composition.
In very good condition, with wear to the face and one folk-repaired stitched area. Low pile with a dense floppy handle.
