This pictorial rug was woven during the late 19th Century.
This pictorial rug depicts a Shah on a throne surrounded by attendants or advisors. Near the bottom of the composition birds and fish can be seen. These images are sometimes utilized to express the shah's domain over both the earth (fish) and the sky (birds). The word "Bahram" is written in arabic script below the throne and may reference the many Sassanid kings with the namesake Bahram. Finely woven in blues, creams, browns, and soft insect-derived purples and pinks.
In very good condition, with some unraveling and discoloration near the edges. As seen in the images, one antique brass hanging-ring is missing. Low pile, with a fine handle.
