This Mohajeran Sarouk was handwoven during the first quarter of the 20th century.

It features an imaginative tree-of-life design of a tiny cypress flanked by two whimsically intersecting trees bearing palmette-shaped "fruit" on an inky blue ground. Plush and well-executed these best-of-type Sarouks are referred to as "Mohajeran." Thinly framed like a painting with a generously spaced floral main border flanked by minor borders of polychrome circles, this classically patterned rug should last for generations to come. Would look lovely hung on a wall.

Very good condition, hard wearing with a plush and hefty handle. Finely woven with some curling along the sides. Some overpainting of the crimson tones which was a common practice with Sarouks during the 1920s.
