This Kazak rug was handwoven in the southern Caucasus during the second quarter of the 20th Century.
It features three medallions in reds, gold, Ivory, and green on a wonderfully abrashed purply-blue slate ground with a variety of neatly organized protection symbols. The main border is composed of alternating pairs of dragon-like "S" forms and flanked by simplified minor borders of single "S" forms. A well-balanced Caucasian weaving in a hard-to-find large format.
In very good condition with original braided fringes and side selvedges. With a medium pile and soft but heavy handle.
