The pain they felt as the roots of their soul pulled away and severed themselves from Earth, 2021
Handmade tapestry hanging upon a rod with a rich palette of black, ivory, green, orange, and burgundy. The weaving grid has been abstracted in a way that alludes to a landscape with four head-like figures floating throughout. The wide range of materials and textures used adds a three-dimensionality to the work.
Via the artist:
"Four abstracted head figures floating in a terraneous landscape. This piece was inspired by a quote in Heart of Aztlan, by Rudolfo Anaya. It is a piece that explores the human (dis)connection with the earth and what that does to the human condition."
