This Khotan rug was woven in Northwest China, which is also known as East Turkestan, during the early 20th century. red pomegranates on a faded grayish purple ground. These famous figures are signs of prosperity and longevity and can be represented in many different manners and often including deities or attendants as seen here. The Each immortal holds an object to identify themselves such as a flute (Han Xiangzi) or a lotus flower (He Xiangu).
