This silk rug was handwoven during the 3rd quarter of the 20th century in Tianjin, China.
It features a central yellow Peony flanked surrounded by a scrolling blue maze on bright white ground. Upon closer inspection in addition to smaller floral motifs the blue maze is actually composed of multiple red-eyed bats and cloudbands. his red tone is very auspicious and often associated with prosperity. The border is very interesting as it is composed of different styles of rosette latticework. Nicely finished with golden fringes adding further distinction.
In very good condition, with minimal wear. Dense with a floppy handle and lustrous touch.
