This Art Deco rug was handwoven in Tientsin, China during the second quarter of the 20th century. 

This oval-shaped rug features a variety of floral forms and three birds on an unusual sand colored ground. The birds may represent the story of the Fenghuang which began as two different birds, the male Feng and the female Huang which eventually merged to one bird can represent harmony and everlasting love. Framed by a main border that alternates between floral forms and tiered structures with an inner border of ying-yang circle motifs and plain navy banded outer border.

In very good condition, with full even pile. Pile is thickly woven and medium height, with a sturdy handle.
