This Turkmen rug was handwoven by the Yomud during the middle of the 20th century in Central Asia.
It features an allover "Kepse" gul design in navy, green, orange, and ivory on an aubergine ground. The field is framed by a dynamic meandering "S" scroll main border that jolts the viewer like flashing lights. The main border is drawn in thick ivory cursive against big blocks of green, orange, and aubergine. Alternating "eagle" motifs in the skirt borders of the top and bottom are nicely proportioned helping to calm the excitement of the "S" scroll main border. The end kilims extend past the skirts with the welcome addition of a delicate weft float patterned embellishment.
In very good condition. All four sides have been reinforced for longevity.
