This Khotan rug was woven in Northwest China, which is also known as East Turkestan, during the early 20th century. 

This rug features three orb-like Ay-gul or "moon" medallions of atop a patinated orange-red ground of personality filed palmettes, rosettes and cloud bands. Thick solid color lines frame two main borders. One is a wonky Greek key on a blue ground in various states of fading and the other polychrome "shou" symbols on a stunning canary yellow ground. Shou is a very auspicious symbol that represents longevity.

In Very Good condition. The pile is evenly worn and low but with a sturdy handle. Some areas have been rewoven at some point in its history but are professionally done.
