This Konagkend rug was woven during the 19th century in Kuba district of the Northern Caucasus
It features an allover arabesque lattice pattern in ivory against an indigo backdrop. The sophisticated design is composed of zoomorphic abstractions as well as polygons containing rosettes and stars. A well balanced and stately palette of ivory golden yellow, ruby red, chocolate and three different blues. A simple yet successful main border on an ivory ground emphasizes the lattice pattern and brightens the whole composition. Nicely framed by multiple minor borders including spiraling ribbons, flowering tulips and the nice addition of an laleh abbasi inner guard border. A very collectible piece.
In very good condition with some minor areas of repair (as pictured). Low pile with a dense but floppy handle.
