This Kazak rug was handwoven in the Caucasus during the third quarter of the 19th Century.
A simple yet strong work of art that utilizes bold contrasting colors and open space to striking effect. Primary tones of red, yellow, and blue are enhanced with the addition of turquoise and ivory. A simple pattern of rosettes and pinwheels evokes an abstract depiction of bees and flowers. Bees in the Caucasus can symbolize those who collect the 'honey' of traditional wisdom and preserve it for further generations. Top-quality dyes have been applied to meaty wool to create a balanced and elegant rendering that provokes an emotional response. A compelling piece that would work well on the floor or the wall.
In very good condition, there are some low areas of wear. The pile is lush, with a soft but meaty handle.
