This exquisite rug was handwoven in the Moghan Plain of the South Caucasus during the 19th century.
It showcases two striking columns of Memling guls set against a rare yellow field and beautifully enriched with jewel-toned hues. Interspersed among the primary motifs are skeletal variations of Memling guls, alternating with polychrome square-filled diamonds that evoke the illusion of a fantastical Rubik’s cube. The slight distortion of the secondary motifs along the edges adds to the rug’s unique character and charm.
Its rarity, luminous color palette, and exceptional condition make this a highly collectible piece and an outstanding example of its type.
Very good condition with minor but properly done conservation and oxidation to the browns.
