This vintage textile was crafted by the Loimi Akha Hill Tribe near the border of Myanmar and Thailand.
The Akha hill tribe people live in China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. They practice a belief system that has strong symbiotic relationship with the land and is infused with animism and ancestor worship among traditions and rituals. This belt is part of the traditional costume of the Akha people. It features a deep indigo ground with lovingly decorated ends in pink, red and ivory cross-stitch. The end tassels feature a mix of indigo dyed cotton, a red shoelace-like string, as well as job's tear seeds.
In very good condition with minimal wear from being handled over the years.
