This Afshar rug handwoven in Southern Iran during the early 20th century.
It features an unusual design of chubby botehs with spotted and tiered diamonds. The tones of primarily navy, white and crimson sharply contrast with one another for a pleasing aesthetic effect. The whole is framed by multiple borders in the same tones. Notably the rug was embellished with lovely detailed kilim and soumak skirt borders which have survived intact.
In very good condition, with some wear, consistent with age. Low pile, with a light handle.
