This small rug was handwoven in China during the 19th century. 

It features a limited color palette in shades of blue and cream and a soft oxidized brown. The central mandala is framed by an alternating rosette pattern and scrolling cornices creating a diamond shaped field. The main border is a scrolling vine with two heart like shapes framed on the top and bottom with a minor border composed of a greek key motif. The format and design suggest use a "Khaden" or sleeping rug usually associated with Tibetan weaving. The rug may have been woven in Northern China for monastic use.

This little rug is in very good condition, signs of wear consistent with age; oxidation in the golden brown dye adds a dimensionality. The pile is low with a soft handle.
