Regular price $1,450.00 Sale

This unusual pictorial rug was woven in Nepal during the 3rd Quarter of the 20th century by Tibetan weavers.

It features Ganesh, known as a remover of obstacles and the god of new beginnings, success, and wisdom. In his four hands, he holds the auspicious objects of a parasol and goad as well as sweets (likely modak). He sits on a stool and is accompanied by a mouse, traditionally one of Ganesh's mounts. The inscription at the top reads "Shri Ganesha Jai", which translates to "Hail Ganesha".

The bright palette is composed of shades of yellow, pink, red, and purple. The pile is thick and densely woven, with a heavy handle. In very good condition, signs of wear consistent with age.
