This runner was handwoven by Kurds in Northwest Iran during the second quarter of the 20th century.
It is composed of a assymetric geometric design in alternating rows. Animals and symbols are sprinkled throughout the brown field. The weaver used variety of scale and bright colors, displaying the typical Kurdish knack for color and whimsy. The colors used also show early examples of synthetic dyes being used more broadly (namely the bright pink and orange dyes). The borders are also composed of a geometric design, and the minor borders feature the traditional sawtooth motif.
In good condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Has been repaired throughout the years, a patch blends in on the bottom right border but is visible if you look for it. Edges have been reinforced to prolong longevity. Original kilim ends still intact.
