Early 20th Century Chinese Peking Rug - 6' x 8'6

Early 20th Century Chinese Peking Rug - 6' x 8'6

Regular price $1,250.00 Sale

Peking rug handwoven in China during the first quarter of the 20th century.

This rug features a rust-colored field, with lots of variegation in color throughout. This shows how many different dye lots were used for this rug and the different ways dyes can age. The design is mirrored and composed of two vases at the top and bottom, containing floral sprays and flanked by two birds in motion. In the center of the field is a sphere and two beautifully woven butterflies. The silver main border is dotted with various symbols and objects: notice the fan, the umbrella or parasol, and the vase. The minor borders contain floral meanders. The color palette used is composed of a variety of blues, pinks, yellows, and oranges, with black serving as the outline color.

In good condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Low pile, with a sturdy handle.
