Early 20th Century Navajo Pound Rug - 3'9 x 6'10

Early 20th Century Navajo Pound Rug - 3'9 x 6'10

Regular price $1,450.00 Sale

Navajo pound rug, handwoven during the first quarter of the 20th century in SW USA.

Pound rugs became popular at the beginning of the 20th century, and were shaped by the Anglo perception of what a rug should be: densely woven, and with a border framing the design. Pound rugs were sold by the pound (hence their name), so heavier wool was used to fetch a better price.

This pound rug features a simple repeating design of interlocking triangles, in a minimalistic color palette of red, light and dark brown, heather gray, and ivory. It has two borders, one in ivory and one in dark brown, and tan skirt borders.

In excellent condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Flatwoven, very dense, with a sturdy handle.
