Peking Dragon Rug - 4'4 x 6'9

Regular price $1,485.00 Sale

This Peking rug was woven in Beijing during the turn of the 20th century. It features a deep blue indigo field with three dragons. The dragon in center is facing forward and is clutching a flaming pearl while the two bottom flanking dragons are in profile with their respective pearls out of reach. The flaming or sacred pearl is often viewed as a metaphor for wisdom or enlightenment. A minor border of of indigo clouds on a tan background is sandwiched between the field and a seafoam green main border features symbols of scholarship including books and scrolls. In good structural condition, with wear to the cotton foundation throughout (as pictured). The foundation has been reinforced in its barest areas for longevity and the overall wear lightens the feel of the rug and works well in tandem with the celestial symbolism.  Measures 4'4" x 6'9"
